Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

These cookie bars are so easy to make. They are made with brown butter. This gives the cookie bars so much flavor and they have chewy centers, with slightly crisp edges.

The cookie dough is baked in an 8x8inch (20x20cm) baking pan. The dough is made using melted butter so there is no need for a hand mixer or stand mixer.

First, brown butter and let this cool down for 8-10 minutes.

Add in an egg, brown sugar, white sugar and vanilla and mix it well to combine.

Whisk together all-purpose flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda.

Add this to the wet ingredients and mix until some flour streaks remain.

Stir through the chocolate chips until everything is combined.

Press the mixture into a parchment-paper lined pan. Top with extra chocolate chips.

Bake the cookie bars for around 25 minutes or until the edges are browned and the top is set and light golden brown, but still slightly soft in the middle.

Let the cookie bar cool in the tin for 10 minutes before removing the cookie slab from the pan and letting it cool further on a wire rack. The slice into 16.
