The Best Caramel-Stuffed Donuts

The Best Caramel-Stuffed Donuts

These caramel donuts are fried, pillowy perfection, stuffed with whipped caramel sauce.

First, make a caramel sauce so this can cool and thicken.

Combine milk, yeast, sugar, egg, flour, and salt to a stand mixer. Mix until it forms a sticky, thick dough.

Add in the butter and keep mixing for around 10 minutes.

The dough will become strong and elastic. Place it in a large bowl, cover and let rise.

Punch down the dough. Form it into a mound, then roll it into a rectangle. Use a cookie cutter or jar lid to cut out round donuts.

Place each cut donut onto some parchment paper.

Fry the donuts in hot oil until deeply browned and puffy.

Toss them in a bowl of granulated sugar, then let them cool completely.

Take the cold caramel sauce and whip it with an electric mixer until thick.

Spoon the whipped caramel into a piping bag with a round tip. Insert the tip of a small knife into the sides of the cooled donuts to make a hole for the filling.

Pipe the caramel through the hole into each donut.
