Toasted Milk Powder Buttercream
This toasted milk powder buttercream tastes just like a birthday cake! The addition of toasted milk powder adds this delicious caramel-milk flavor.
I’ve been adding toasted milk powder to everything lately, and this frosting is one of my favorite uses so far. I used it on my vanilla cake (pictured.)I stir the milk powder into heavy cream first and then beat this into the frosting. Then I let it whip for ages until it’s super light and fluffy.

You can make this buttercream in advance. Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. When ready to use, bring it to room temperature and re-whip to restore its smooth consistency.
Here’s how it’s done
- You’ll need a stand mixer or an electric hand mixer.
- Whisk toasted milk powder into heavy cream.
- Beat butter in a stand mixer until light and creamy.
- Add in powdered sugar, vanilla, salt and the heavy cream mixture.
- Beat on low speed to combine everything.
- Then switch the mixer to high speed and whip until light and fluffy.
- Then frost your favorite cake!

Yup, you can freeze this buttercream. Store it in an airtight container or a freezer bag for up to three months. Thaw it until it reaches room temperature before re-whipping.

Ingredients
Toasted Milk Powder Buttercream
- 60 g heavy cream
- 2 1/2 tablespoons toasted milk powder
- 225 g unsalted butter softened to room temperature
- 450 g powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- In a small bowl combine the cream and toasted milk powder and stir to combine.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment beat the butter until light, smooth and creamy. Add in the powdered sugar, salt, vanilla, and heavy cream mixture.
- Whip at low speed to combine the sugar, then beat at high speed for 5-8 minutes until it is thick and fluffy. The longer you beat it, the fluffier the frosting will be.
